Metal Working

Corrosion Inhibitors

Corrosion inhibitors are important components in the formulation of water-miscible metalworking fluids. Their main function is to minimise the corrosive effects of water-based fluids on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Besides, corrosion inhibitor components, as a function of their chemical composition can also provide emulsification, lower foaming tendency, and enhanced lubricity making them useful multifunctional additives. Metalworking fluid applications include soluble oils, semi-synthetic and fully synthetic fluids as well as cleaners.

Coupling Agents

Coupling agents are used in a range of metalworking fluids where they optimise formulation homogeneity maximising the stability of both the concentrate and aqueous dilution. Metalworking applications include soluble oils, semi-synthetic and fully synthetic fluids.

Emulsifiers

Emulsifiers are essential components in the formulation of water-miscible metalworking with a broad range of chemistries being employed to provide optimum stability for different oils and water compositions. In addition to emulsification, as a function of their chemical composition they can also provide reduced foaming tendency and enhanced lubricity, making them useful multifunctional additives. Metalworking fluid applications include soluble oils and semi synthetic-fluids.

EP Additives

Extreme Pressure (EP) additives are important components in the formulation of neat and water-miscible metalworking fluids. Their main function is to reduce the friction between the cutting tool and the workpiece. The ability to enhance the extreme pressure lubricity enable these additives to extend cutting tool life, reducing maintenance costs and improving the productivity of the machining process.

Low Foam

Low foam characteristics are important in the majority of metalworking applications to ensure optimum performance. Whether low foaming emulsifiers for soluble oils or semi-synthetic fluids controlled foam lubricity additives in synthetic fluids and in metal cleaning and surface treatments.

Lubricity Additives

Lubricity additives are important components in the formulation of neat and water-miscible metalworking fluids. They can provide the majority of the lubricity to enhance the characteristics of other oils, enhancing boundary layer lubrication.

Metal Cleaning

Metal cleaning is important for the removal of dirt, lubricants, particulates and fluids that accumulate on metal surfaces during the metalworking processes. The metal cleaning formulations can include alkaline, synthetic, emulsion, detergent, and acidic products. For use in spray, immersion and vibratory cleaning systems. To ensure the successful formulation for this application a broad range of characteristics including, low foaming, electrolyte tolerance, wetting and emulsification are required.
